Below are the main components while going for Test Automation of any application or website -
1) First step of Automation Testing is always check whether application could be Automated.
2) Sanity check with Automation will prove that the suite could be implemented in Automation framework.
3) Third part will be full fledged Automation with regression cases as per requirement.

Obviously Automation is in boom as it minimizes time and efforts of manual QA.
